Petrol Engine Tools - How should I store my Petrol tools?

You are recommended, even when storing for a short period of time (a few days), to drain the petrol tank after use and empty the carburettor. To empty the carburettor, restart the engine after draining the petrol tank and allow the engine to stall when it runs out of petrol.

These precautions are essential before winter storage to preserve the lifetime of the seals and membranes in the carburettor.

My high pressure cleaner operates jerkily, what is happening?

Check the condition of the accessories, the lance could be blocked by foreign bodies or scale: if you find a foreign body in the lance, use the unclogging tool, calibrated according to the lance diameter, which is supplied with the appliance. If the problem remains, the pump valves may be worn. The equipment must be sent to a specialist in this case.

High Pressure Cleaners - How do I suck in detergent with my high pressure cleaner?

Some of our high pressure cleaners have a feature allowing detergent to be sucked in and added to the water sprayed by the tool.

To suck in the product, the cleaner must be operated in "low pressure" mode by pressing on the end of the lance (refer to the owner's operating manual). If you use this function, do not adjust the pressure at the pump or on the gun at the same time (if your device is equipped with these features).

Note that only Homelite products or products designed especially for high pressure cleaners should be used; products intended for domestic use are prohibited.

How should I store my high pressure cleaner when not in use?

You should always drain your high pressure cleaner after use. Switch off the water supply and run your appliance for a few seconds to evacuate the water from the pump. When the inlet pipe becomes flat, the pump is completely empty.

If you do not intend to use your high pressure cleaner for a long period of time, for example over winter, you are recommended not only to empty the appliance as indicated above but also to protect the pump. Remove the hose then pour a small quantity of car anti-freeze into the water inlet hole. Run the appliance for 2 or 3 seconds until the liquid comes out of the cleaner outlet hole.

As a precaution, you appliance should nevertheless be stored in a room where there is no risk of frost.

How do I start my high pressure cleaner?

Your high pressure cleaner is equipped with a filter at the pump inlet to prevent foreign bodies from entering the pump (e.g. sand, gravel, earth, etc.). Make sure that this filter is always fitted whenever you connect the water supply pipe.

Similarly, when making connections, make sure that there are no foreign bodies in the hoses.

The water supply must always be switched on before starting the electric or petrol engine. Operation without water damages the pump, especially the piston seal.

Only extension cables with 3 wires of minimum wire cross-section 2.5 mm² should be used. Unroll the extension cable fully before starting the engine, to avoid abnormal overheating.

Check the oil level regularly, but as long as there are no repairs which would require the oil to be drained, there is no need to completely replace the oil.

Can I use water from a well or a drum to supply a high pressure cleaner?

Due to the high flow rate required by the pump, water from a well or a tank cannot be used.

This type of supply can be used if the water tank is placed at a height or if a submerged pump with an output of 10 litres a minute is placed in the well.

In both cases, it is essential to fit a filter on the water supply to prevent foreign bodies from entering the pump. Failure to do so invalidates the warranty.

Are fuses fitted in my high pressure cleaner?

Homelite high pressure cleaners have a built-in protection system which stops the motor automatically in the event of overheating: extension cable cross-section too small, less than 2.5 mm², intensive use, very hot weather, etc. In this case, you must allow your cleaner to cool down before switching it back on normally.

My high pressure cleaner stops after half an hour, what is happening?

Homelite high pressure cleaners have a built-in protection system which stops the motor automatically in the event of overheating: this is normal if it happens after intensive use for more than ¾ of an hour or if the weather is very hot. After cooling down, the device should start normally. Otherwise, check that the cable cross-section is at least 2,5 mm² and that the motor is cooled down correctly (fan operation, air inlets not blocked, etc.).

Check the power available on the socket and the condition of the fuses and the circuit-breaker. Check that the power available is the same as that required to operate the appliance (refer to the owner's operating manual). Check that the electrical connections and the power supply cable are in good condition and that there is no humidity. If you fail to locate a problem on the electrical installation, do not open your appliance yourself: take it to an approved repairer for checking.
